New Business

Occupational Tax Certificate

Looking to start a new biz in the city? We'd love to have you! This is what you need to know to kick things off:

An Occupational Tax Certificate, commonly known as a business license, is a certificate issued by government agencies. The certificate is evidence that an individual or company has paid an occupational tax as required by the local ordinance.

"The business registration of each business operated in the local government's jurisdiction shall identify the line or lines of business that the business conducts. No business shall conduct any line of business without first having that line of business registered with the city and that line of business being noted by the city upon the business registration form which is to be displayed by the business owner. " (City of Cartersville Code Sec 10-76)

Any individual, partnership, corporation/LLC, or entity engaged in business must obtain an Occupational Tax Certificate for each location in City of Cartersville prior to engaging in these activities. This includes any activity, full or part-time, performed from a permanent, transient, residential or commercial location as well as any activity performed temporarily or on a transient basis in City of Cartersville. Activities include selling, soliciting or representing products or services, leasing or renting of commercial real property, retail sales, wholesale activities, administrative office activities, manufacturing, providing services, consulting, etc.
