Baby Dies in Cartersville House Fire

CARTERSVILLE, Ga -  Cartersville Fire Department and State Fire Marshals Office are working together to determine the cause of an early morning house fire that killed a baby over the weekend.

Cartersville Fire Department Units were dispatched at 3:33am Sunday, December 5, to a reported house fire on Oakdale Drive. 

Prior to arrival, first responder units were notified of two residents trapped inside the home. Fire units arrived on scene within minutes, where they encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions. 

Fire crews initiated fire attack, as well as search and rescue efforts. A mother and baby were located inside the home and rescued, then turned over to Metro EMS for medical treatment. 

The baby was pronounced dead on scene by Metro EMS. The mother, found unresponsive in the home, was transported to a local hospital then to a burn center, in Austell, for further treatment. The father was transported by Metro EMS to a burn center in Cobb County.
