A cornerstone of Cartersville Fire Departments protection is prevention. Fire and Life Safety education is a primary focus of the mission of this department. Educational programs are taught on all topics that lean to prevention. Some sample topics include, E.D.I.T.H -Exit Drills In The Home, fire extinguisher usage, smoke detectors, preventing kitchen fires, and fire and life safety codes.

Outreach is provided for all age groups with programs tailored for each group. The department uses many innovative education techniques including puppet shows, robotic fire trucks, station tours, clowns, and a mobile fire safety classroom trailer. This specialized trailer is a place where students can tour a fire safe home and practice a safe exit drill under smoke conditions. The trailer also has a specialized hazardous weather function to teach what to do in these times of situations.

Cartersville Fire Department has received numerous awards for its fire and life safety education programs. Such recognition has come from the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, Georgia State Fire Marshals Office, and The Georgia State Firefighters Association.
