Position Title: Program Coordinator

Department: Parks and Recreation

Compensation: $46,319 

Job Summary: This position is responsible for overseeing, supervising, developing, coordinating, and implementation of all athletic and recreational programs.

Major Duties:

  • Responsible for all athletic programs, leagues, and tournaments for teen and adult.
  • Responsible for developing practice, and game schedules for league and tournaments.
  • Responsible for coordinating with athletic associations and special interest groups regarding parks and recreation programming.
  • Responsible for supervision of recreational programs, facilities while enforcing departmental rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for principles, practices, and methods used in parks and recreation.
  • Responsible for maintaining program equipment.
  • Responsible for recruiting of scorekeepers, officials, athletic supervisors, and any other part-time personnel for athletic/recreational programs.
  • Responsible for communication with general public in regards to athletic programs; developing flyers, handouts, brochures, and other aspects for marketing purposes of recreational programs.
  • Responsible for providing an athletic budget, bidding of athletic equipment, and ordering of athletic supplies.
  • Responsible for keeping and maintaining records on personnel, and all other areas as needed for operations of parks and recreation programs.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of new teen/adult programming.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Skills/ Qualifications:

  • Minimum four-year college degree; B.S. Preferably with a sports management/parks and recreation background or minimum of 5 yrs. experience in a related field
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of computers and software
  • Knowledge of parks and recreation programs and facilities
  • Knowledge of departmental and city policies
  • Certification in CPR, defibrillator, and basic first aid techniques
  • Skills in supervision, coordinating staff, working with volunteers
  • Time management skills
  • Maintain active membership in Georgia Recreation Parks Association

Minimum qualifications:

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a 4-year college degree; B.S.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for five years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

 

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Program Manager assigns work in terms of very general instructions. Work is reviewed for the nature and propriety of results.

GUIDELINES:  Guidelines include Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA), National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA), city ordinances and departmental policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY:  The work consists of varied recreation and administrative duties.

SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to plan, implement and coordinate athletic/recreation programs for community residents. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of recreation programs to the community and enhances the public image of the department.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, instructors, volunteers, representatives of community organizations, program participants and their parents, coaches, media representatives and the general public.

PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems, motivates others and provides services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is performed while sitting, standing walking, bending, crouching or stooping.  The employee must lift light and heavy objects frequently and be able to distinguish between shades of color.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed indoors/outdoors, where the employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, machinery with moving parts, heat and cold or inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles or gloves.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct supervision over contract instruction and functional supervision over part-time and contract labor.
