POSITION TITLE:        Assistant Swim Coach

Department:                Parks and Recreation

Classification:               Part Time Seasonal

Supervisor:                    Head Swim Team Coach and/or Aquatics Manager

Pay Range:                   $15.50 per hour

 

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the assistant coaching of the Cartersville Cobias summer swim team program.

 

Job Locations:

Cartersville Parks and Recreation Department Pools; Dellinger Park on Pine Grove Road, and the Senior Aquatic Pool at Sam Smith Park on Douthit Ferry Rd.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Works with Head Swim Coach to set attendance and discipline policies for swimmers.
  • Travels to away swim meets with the team including attending District and State Swim Competitions.
  • Lead and implement daily practices provided by the Head Swim Coach.
  • Develop and improve technical and physical skills of swimming in each participant.
  • Create a positive team environment that fosters learning and fun.
  • Establish and maintains communication with parents and swimmers.
  • Steps in and acts as the Head Swim Coach when necessary.
  • Assists in planning program activities not limited to practices.
  • Enforces pool rules and adheres to all regulations.
  • Respond to incidents/accidents using the accepted techniques and complete all reports as necessary.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with management, Employees and members of the general public including parents and children.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, using personal judgement in decision making.
  • Knowledge in teaching and coaching competitive swimming.
  • Ability to have a flexible work schedule.
  • Be able to stand or sit for long periods of time while maintaining proper patron surveillance.
  • Skill in operating office equipment, including a computer and printer.
  • Ability to learn swim meet programs such as Meet Manager and Swim Manager.
  • Must have the knowledge, skills, and abilities taught in American Red Cross lifeguard, First Aid and CPR certification course.

 

Minimum Requirements of Position:

Must be at least 18 years old.

Minimum 1-year coaching experience in a similar aquatic facility.

American Red Cross Lifeguard certification is a must.

American Red Cross Swim Training for Coaches or higher certification.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and reach with hands or arms. The employee may be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Clear hearing and speech required.

 

Working Conditions:

Work for this job is performed in an outdoor setting. The employee will be exposed to wet, humid conditions or outdoor conditions. Quiet to moderate noise levels. Fast paced requiring flexibility in handling a variety of functions simultaneously.
