POSITION TITLE:  Lifeguard I

Pay Range:        $14.00 per hour

Job Summary:
The purpose of this job is to maintain the safety and health of all patrons and enforce all facility and agency regulations and policies.

Job Locations:
Cartersville Parks and Recreation Department Pools; Dellinger Park Pool on Pine Grove Road, Aubrey Street Pool on Aubrey Street, and the Senior Aquatic Pool at Sam Smith Park on Douthit Ferry Road

Responsibilities and Job Duties:
•    Comply with all operating policies and procedures.
•    Enforce rules and maintain proper surveillance at all aquatic facilities.
•    Caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards.
•    Respond to incidents/accidents using the proper techniques and complete all reports as necessary.
•    Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
•    Ability to effectively communicate and interact with management, employees, and members of the general public.
•    Provides general information on pool operation to patrons and visitors.
•    Attend in-service training sessions as scheduled.
•    Clean restrooms, pick up and takeout trash, as needed.
•    Complete daily equipment inventories and safety inspections, as assigned.
•    Work at the front desk/gate and concession area, if needed.
•    Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements of Position:
•    Must be at least 15 years old.
•    Must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
•    Be able to stand or sit for long periods of time while maintaining proper patron surveillance.
•    Able to operate office equipment, including a computer to sign patrons in and out.
•    Ability to have a flexible work schedule, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, etc.
•    Must have the knowledge, skills, and abilities taught in American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR certification course.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and reach with hands or arms. The employee may be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Clear hearing and speech required.

Working Conditions:
Work for this job is performed in an indoor and/or outdoor setting. The employee will be exposed to wet, humid, and outdoor conditions. Quiet to moderate noise levels. Fast paced requiring flexibility in handling a variety of functions simultaneously.
