Solar Installation

Cartersville Electric System

If you have determined that a solar distributed generation system makes sense for your home or business review the relevant documentation listed below. Please be aware these documents are current as of today, but they are subject to change. The installation will be governed by the version of each document that is current at the time of installation. It is the responsibility of customer to become familiar with the content of each document and verify that the current version is obtained prior to installation.

The process for connecting a new solar installation is outlined below:

  1. After reviewing the attached documentation, the customer should contact the Cartersville Electric System with any questions regarding rates or installation requirements prior to purchasing and/or installing a solar system.  A meeting with a City of Cartersville Electric System Engineering personnel will be required to coordinate the installation details.  It is best to schedule this meeting as early as practical when considering a solar power installation.
  2. The customer is responsible for completing the attached Interconnection Application document and returning it to us.
  3. CES will review the application and determine whether or not it meets our requirements, or if we need any additional documentation.  Once the application has been approved, the customer may proceed with installation.
  4. Once the system has been installed, CES will inspect the system and may request to be present to witness all or parts of any testing performed by the installer.  (Please note that inspection by CES personnel is not the same as the electrical inspection that will also be required by the City’s Planning and Development department).  Part of our testing may include monitoring voltage and/or current harmonic content to verify compliance with the established harmonic limits. If all testing is successful and the installation meets all requirements, we will approve the application.
  5. The approved application will be attached to the Interconnect-Power Exchange agreement as Exhibit A. This agreement must be signed by the customer and notarized, and must be approved by city council prior to being signed by the Mayor.  The Cartersville Electric System cannot purchase power from the Customer until the Interconnect-Power Exchange Agreement has been fully executed by both the Customer and the City of Cartersville.

Also, please be aware that the requirements discussed in this email and the attached documents are only the requirements of the Cartersville Electric System.  There may be additional requirements for permitting, zoning, or inspections.  Please contact the City of Cartersville Planning and Zoning department at 770-387-5606 to determine any additional requirements or restrictions for solar installations.
