Uniform Division

Uniform Division Mission Statement

It is the Uniform Division's mission to give the citizens of Cartersville a safe place to live, work and play 24 hours a day.   This is partially accomplished by enforcement of state and local laws, regulations and ordinances. Calls for assistance and service have just as high, if not more, a priority when it comes to our citizens. The Cartersville Police Department strives to be flexible, to be able to meet the needs of the city and its citizens, while maintaining peace and order.

The Uniform Division of the Cartersville Police Department is made up of two day and two evening shifts. An officer's tour of duty is normally 12 hours, either 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Officers normally work a two day cycle and rotate shifts every 4 months. Each shift is supervised by a shift commander holding the rank of Lieutenant. Each shift also has assigned to it a sergeant whose duty is that of an assistant shift commander. All patrol officers meet and/or exceed those standards set by Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST). Many officers have multiple certifications, to include:

>        Field Training Officer

>        Radar Operator

>        Intoxilyzer Operator.

The Cartersville Police Department also has within its Uniform Division several POST certified instructors who not only assist with the agency's training, but assist other departments and training sites in their training needs. A uniformed officer's training is on-going, with many officers also pursuing their formal education as encouraged by the department. The Cartersville Police Department believes that it has some of the best trained officers in the area, if not the State of Georgia.
