The City of Cartersville and Bartow County continually strive to work together to provide an exceptional, safe community for the residents of this area. A perfect example of this is the recent partnering of Cartersville’s Police Department and Bartow County’s Sheriff Department to form the joint Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force. The results have been amazing. Here is a brief summary of January’s results (please note: all seizures pending court proceedings):
· Total drug arrests: 43
· Drugs removed from circulation: Marijuana: 3,619.1 grams (7.97 lbs.); Cocaine: 243.05 grams (.5 lbs); Methamphetamine: 51.5 grams
· Total value of drugs seized: $25,705.00
· U.S. Currency seized: $1,655.00
· Vehicles seized: 1
· Firearms seized: 3
· Search warrants: 1
· Knock and Talks: 4
· Probation searches: 2
Total charges by the Drug Task Force include:
· Possessions of Marijuana: 12
· Possessions with intent (Marijuana): 6
· Possessions of Cocaine: 9
· Possessions with intent (Cocaine): 6
· Trafficking Cocaine: 5
· Possessions of Methamphetamine: 8
· Trafficking Methamphetamine: 3
In addition to the above numbers, the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force has made two arrests for child molestation and one arrest for stolen vehicles. Thomas Culpepper, Cartersville’s Chief of Police, says, “The benefits of the combined drug task force are already being seen. This is also creating a better relationship between the Cartersville Police Department and Bartow County Sheriff Office. This is good for the community; this is removing dangers to our community and making this a better place.”
